This article analyzes the dramatis personae in the film Kız Kardeşler (Emin Alper, 2019) through the lens of Judith Butler’s concept of performative subjectivity, with special attention to the situation of subjects in the encounter with power. Building on Butler’s account of the subaltern and the reciprocal dependence between subject and power, it argues that the subjects in the film only become cognizable in the eyes of power through their subjection.
